I come from a Heinz 57 of Irish, English and Cherokee descendants. I consider myself not of one religion, faith or path but of all. I am simply a messenger … my goal here is to help as many as I can with the stories I have lived and those yet to come. I will share with you my journey, my walk on this path. I don’t put myself in one category or belief … I feel that I am of many ways… from many paths .. I feel that I am more of a universal soul who has experienced many paths .. and have found truth in many forms.

The Calling

Who knew that today’s words would have been inspired by Joan Rivers. I was listening to the radio on my way to work this morning, when they played a clip of her speaking to a fellow comedian about why they do what they do. She said, they do it because they love it more than anything else, what they do is not a job, what they do is a calling, they make people happy, it’s a calling, it’s a calling.

With those words I began to think about the calling of light workers. It’s a long, lonely path but we do it not for money or fame or any type of recognition, but because we are called to do it. It is something that is part of our being, we don’t know how to NOT do it. We help others simply because we were called to do so. It makes us happiest when we have been able to help another, we continue doing it because we love that feeling and because it is after all, our calling.

Many Blessings and love and light to Joan Rivers,

Lashing Out and Karma

Jackson Falls - Natchez Trace

Jackson Falls – Natchez Trace

I was having a conversation with a friend earlier about people from their past who have done them wrong, hurt them or were just plain ugly in their ways toward that person. My friend was quick to say, given the situation again, they would retaliate with angry but truthful words that they know would in kind, hurt that person back. They would fight dirty with dirty, throw stones as they were thrown at them.

My reply was this: Just because someone else wants to get down on that level, doesn’t mean you have to as well. Take a step back from the situation and disconnect from it for a moment to see it for what it truly is. Ask yourself a few questions; is retaliation worth the karma for you to take on? Sending out negative energy into the world, is it worth the risk of it coming back to you? Do you allow yourself to entertain this negativity for a brief moment of feeling justified? That feel good moment does only last a very brief time.

It’s easy to say these things when you aren’t in the middle of the dispute. I do know how hard it is to hold back when stones keep getting thrown in your direction. I have been on the receiving end many times in life and in many situations. I guess that is where my experience comes from and why today I would much rather choose to gather those stones and build a bridge than to throw them back. I’m certainly not saying I haven’t thrown some of those stones back, especially earlier in my years… but quite often, regret is on the back end of those stones that got thrown and once they hit their mark, they cannot be taken back, ever!

So when a situation comes your way and someone is sending out negativity of any kind your way… step back, find your balance and don’t allow their negativity to flow over on to you. Or at least, do your best to not let the negativity control your emotions and actions.

No one can take your inner peace away from you unless you allow it.

Many Blessings,
Raventalker

The Scars

Edited in Nokia Glam MeRemember as a kid, how you would compare scars with your friends. Pointing out each scratch and dent, telling the story of how they came to be. As we get older we collect more scars and the type of scars change. In our younger years we collect the scrapes and bruises of physical damage, while as we age we recognize scars in a more mental and emotional way.

Pointing out how this scar came from a bicycle accident and this one was from being bitten by a stray cat and this one here where my finger was caught in the door. Now I stand next to you pointing out the scars from heartache, stress, abuse(self inflicted and other), the scars from failed relationships both romantic and friendships, the scars from my fears, from broken promises(both from myself and from others), scars from falling down (in a non physical way)  and the scrapes and bruises endured while picking yourself back up.

This one came from not believing in myself, this one came from giving too much to someone not willing to give back, this one came from rejection, here’s another that came from being afraid, this one is for trusting the wrong person, this one from what I allowed to go on and this one is from love lost. The scars seem to keep adding up, but take a look at how over time, most have healed and others are beginning to heal. The fresh ones you see, they will heal as well and I know that time will be the bandage. Open wounds hurt and that doesn’t change, but knowing that over time the wounds will close and healing will take place is what holds me together for the moment.

Talking Crow

crowtalker I just had to share this “only in Raventalker’s World” story that happened this morning.

I always get to work an hour or more before I should be here. I like to use that quiet time to get my day organized and to just enjoy a little quiet, me time. So after I get my day ready I decide to step outside to search for some clovers and meditate before everyone starts coming in.

I’m looking in a patch of clovers when a crow lands on the lamp pole on the street next to me. He begins calling in other crows with the short, quick calls. I begin mocking his calls. He calls 3 times, I call 3 times, he calls 4, I call 4, etc. Suddenly another crow lands on the lamp pole just up from us on the street. Now I have 2 of them and I’m mocking both crows. Another crow comes in and lands on the lap pole in the parking lot and now there are 4 of us :-).

Here’s the layout:
crowtalking

All of us are calling back and fourth and I giggle to myself about whats going on. I keep searching through the clovers, and calling at the same time. The crow from the parking lot lamp pole wants a better view at what I’m doing so he flies over to the building behind me. The sun is coming up from the other side of the building so I can see the building’s shadow in front of me. I can see where the crow is and as I continue searching for clovers and mocking their calls, the crow on the building steps around to the other side of me so he can see what I’m doing. Suddenly the crow on the building makes the little growling sound crows make to symbolize affection.

We call a few more times back and fourth and then they all leave.

I felt for a moment like Snow White in the forest talking to the animals. It was a precious moment, connecting with my crow cousins. A moment that in the middle of these hard times, I was able to smile and feel good inside. I didn’t feel so alone and  felt connected, a part of something more than just my own being.

Wake Up Call 101

WP_20140518_012-4Awakening thought of the day: If you see me crying, don’t think it is because I am weak… these tears come from having to be strong for so long, hoping that one day I wouldn’t “need” to be …. but in realty, life tells me I need to be stronger. Wake Up Call 101 – thanks life … you suck!

Before long I’ll be moving mountains with all this strength I’m building. As I type these words , a tiny little smirk forms across my face and although life at the moment is less than fun, I have hope that my statement is true. I think to myself, yes, I’ll move mountains! I’ll make my life what I want it to be and I’ll stop trying to make everyone else happy at my own expense.

I know what I would tell myself in the situation. I need to take my own advice.

Take this pain and the lessons and move forward, don’t look back. Use these obstacles to your advantage. Don’t let the pain keep you from moving forward. Pain is temporary. YOU DESERVE HAPPINESS IN ALL WAYS!

When life sucks… make it better. After all I am a magical person… my kisses, as I have always said, are magical… so here I am blowing myself a kiss, making it better one day at a time.

I have the power to change my world.

I have the tools within me to succeed.

I will do this!

Might need a nap first… being strong is tiring .. no .. no nap… move forward. You can nap later… your life needs your immediate attention now.

What it’s like in the storm

Edited in Nokia Glam MeSearching for words to say … and I can’t find anything. It’s like … a run down house in the middle of no where that has been long abandoned … no one is there and hasn’t been for a very long time. The weeds have taken over and decay has set in… seen to the world as an eyesore… just left to rot.

Needing some major weeding to be done and some tlc. It’s been a really long time since I have felt like me, wondering if I’ve ever been me. Feeling very lost, alone and afraid of the unknown. Angered at my fragility. Hating that I fall to pieces at the drop of a hat. I shake from the inside out, through the day and I don’t know how to make it stop. Trying to keep my mind occupied on other things but suddenly overcome by reality and I fall to pieces once again. Questioning my existence and why I chose this life. What is all this pain for? Where is the bright side that everyone says is there? Trying my best to keep my eye on the horizon, hoping to see the light that always shows up just after the storm. Giving myself a pep talk every few minutes. I can do this, I am stronger than I feel, I will make it beyond this point, I will get through this storm.

I write this not for sympathy or any of the like, but to help myself heal, saying out loud what is going on inside, for so long I have kept my feelings bottled up, placing my focus on the happiness and well being of others. It’s my turn now and there is a lifetime of healing that needs to be done.

Many Blessings,

War Paint – The Painted Face

warpaintWhen we speak about war paint, I’m sure most imagine the painted face of a Native American. Well, natives aren’t the only ones who wear war paint. In fact, I painted my face this morning. It may not look to you like war paint, but let me tell you why it is. Just as war paint, in a variety of cultures began with the intention to distract/frighten ones opponents in battle, to connect the person behind the mask to their warrior spirit and to protect the warrior, women have long used their own form of war paint to do the same.

Even without knowing why we make up our faces, when we do, we feel different. Ready to face the world, ready to do battle. The makeup we use helps to disguise many things. It can help hide our insecurities, fears and vulnerability. When we get up in the mornings and dress to step out into the world, we prepare for the battles that may come our way. You’ll notice many, while at home don’t bother with makeup and fancy clothes, because that’s where we feel the most safe, but once we think about stepping outside into the world, our thoughts go to an instinctive behavior to protect ourselves the best way we can. Our choice in clothing, shoes, accessories and makeup are all a part of the ritual for protecting ourselves.  So this morning, I put on my war paint. What it hides is a multitude of things. Fear of what’s to come, worry of how I’ll make it through the storm ahead of me, sadness that consumes my thoughts, stress, insecurities and much more. I stand here filled with all of those things, but my war paint is applied to help me face the day and what battles are placed before me with my warrior spirit.

Cummins Falls

This morning I got up at 4 am so that I could drive 80 miles to Cookeville to then climb down to see Cummins Falls as the sun was coming up … it was a looooooooooong way to that waterfall but it was well worth the trek! My day started out driving while it was still dark and then the joys of watching the sun come up and paint the sky in beautiful colors. I went straight from beautiful painted sky to nothing but fog and then finally just as I came out of the fog bank I arrived at my destination. Hmmmmmm… the gate is closed. Check website for hours.. crap, I’m an hour early. Well, now I have time to get my backpack ready. I’m on the phone with my bestie laughing about me driving out so far and the park being closed when I guy clad in flannel steps out of the woods… I was like.. stay on the phone with me… LOL. He walked right past me and opened the gate! Thanks! And I was on my way. The sign said <– that way to Overlook and –> that way to downriver shortcut…. I’d hate to see what the long way looked like. After hiking down the side of the mountain I ended up in a very wide creek bed. Started hiking toward the waterfall and had to cross over the creek several times … and I kept walking .. and walking … wondering where the heck is this waterfall!!!

Finally I rounded a bend in the creek and it was heavenly!! So majestic and beautiful!

We won’t even think about talking about the hike back up!

Have a look!

Stripping it all away!

This is a vision I had a couple of years ago and thought now to be a good time to re-share with you my experience…

The Milk Ceremony ~

I was laid out in circle completely naked as the clan mothers cleansed me with milk. They carefully poured milk all over my body taking care not to miss any part of me. Once this was done pieces of leather were laid over my more private areas and a medicine man then came into the circle. He carried with him a large shell of smoke to once again cleanse and bless me and the area before he began his medicine.

What happened next was something I would have never imagined.  It was as if I had many layers of myself on me…. Like layers of clothing it was as if I had layers of flesh that had built up over the years. The medicine man stood at my feet and with gestures he pulled off each layer one by one. With each layer he pulled off and threw behind him, I became brighter and more clean looking.  It was just like when one lightens their teeth and with each application they become a tad bit whiter. Behind him as he threw off each layer, there were helpers that would quickly pour special water mixed with milk and herbs onto the ground where his gestures seemed to have thrown the layers. Also there was a bundle of herbs smoking just on the far side of the area that yet another helper would continuously fan so that the smoke filled the entire area behind the medicine man.

These layers of me were… well….. they were ideas, behaviors, thoughts, actions and habits that I had formed over years of living. Things that had attached to me through all my daysin this life. I was being stripped away of everything. Stripped down to the bone but the medicine man went far beyond flesh and bone …  he went all the way down to the core of me.

feather It took quite a long while to strip away all my layers .. seems as though I must have collected quite a lot in this  life thus far.  When he was finally done stripping away my layers, I saw something amazing and unexpected. I was made up entirely of light. Laying there still, glowing oh so brightly.. and to my amazement I could see certain parts of me a bit brighter than the rest. We read about and are taught that our bodies have these Chakra points… the points in your body that hold the most energy…. Seeing myself in this way….. confirmed that to be true.

It was as if I had the whole of the universe inside me… made up of every constellation imaginable. Some say were are born of the stars .. after seeing this I would certainly believe that to be a truth. Once I was stripped down to this level the medicine man and his helpers along with the clan mothers, sat down and formed a circle around me…. They sat there for a very long time chanting in a meditative prayer. They did this until the sun came back up.

I was then shaded by some structure that they built and left there in a meditative state until the sun had gone back down. As I began to grow back a new layer of flesh and bone… I was given a token or gift from each person in the circle… they placed these gifts inside me. It will be up to me to find these gifts and use them when the time is right. The medicine man’s gift was a large crystal.. it was squared in shape .. not pointed and not entirely clear.. it was a milky color and a bit off white.

This ceremony leaves me in quite a state of reflection. I can certainly see the point of it and feel quite blessed to have been part of such a sacred and healing act. In fact beyond the words describing the ceremony I feel quite speechless.. not knowing exactly what to say… yeah I bet you never imagines that either!! hahahaha.

On that note I will leave you with this one last thought… maybe we should all take a bit of time to look at ourselves and the many layers we have collected over our lifetimes… and do ourselves  the favor of shedding those layers that bring us negativity, pain or those thoughts and behaviors that simply hold us back in life.

Many Blessings,

Would You Come Back?

A while back I had a conversation with someone who doesn’t believe in reincarnation and her argument was “why would you want to come back?”.

My argument was “Why wouldn’t you?”.

It doesn’t matter if you believe in reincarnation or not. That’s not what this post is about .. what it IS about is finding reasons to live life all over again.

Some of my reasons for wanting to live life all over again:

Falling in love all over again
Giving birth to my children, holding them in my arms all over again
The excitement and wonder of Christmas
Jumping in that huge pile of leaves that took you all day to rake up
Giggles and laughter
Moments spent with friends
Talking all night on the phone
The first kiss
Making a difference in someone’s life for the better
Accomplishment
Feeling that first kick
Singing in the car, not caring who sees
Sunsets and sunrises
Summers first rain
Winters first snow
Snow angels
Sledding!
Snow days!
Trick or Treat
Sleepovers
Wondering how the Easter Bunny got into the house to hide your eggs
Swinging as high as you can swing
Spinning in circles til you fall down
Cuddles with the one you love
Kisses
Hugs
Baby’s first words or steps
A cuddle by the fire
Hot soup on a cold winter’s day
Bubble baths
Dreams
Birthday Cake!
Giving
Vacations
Recess!

This list goes on forever ………

Do you see? There is so much you would miss if not ever born… why wouldn’t you want to do it over and over again?

No matter what you believe .. no matter how hard the road has been … there is reason to live!

Many Blessings,

Our Web of Life

IMG_9993As we travel through our journey in this Earth walk, we are constantly weaving our own web of life.

Every decision we make, every choice, every path, we weave this web.

Connected to our web, are many other webs. All the actions, decisions, choices that others make are felt in the tension of the connected webs. You may not know it, you may not see it, but you feel it. Often, it is not understood as to where those feelings are coming from. We were born knowing how connected we are and somewhere in the process of living, we forget.

Think about your web and how you connect to all the other webs in the world and now think about all the choices, paths, decisions that you have made so far.

Will you move forward in the same way or will you make better choices?

What we do in this life…. how we walk upon the Earth effects everything. It effects others, it effects the Earth, the animals, everything. Walk with goodness in your heart. We are not perfect creatures but we can strive to better ourselves and the world we live in… beginning with the web that you weave.

The Meaning of Life

WP_20140715_013Spirit whispers in my ear this morning and so I must share the message I have been given…

Life! Life .. it’s simple.. it’s complex… it’s up .. it’s down.. it’s here .. it’s now.. it’s this moment and the next.

I can’t begin to tell you what life is all about … ok well I could begin but it would never end…lol.. this blog would go on forever!!!

But what I can tell you is what it’s NOT about …

It’s not about the pain – it’s about growing, learning and repairing

It’s not about the torment – it’s about the healing

It’s not about the hurt – it’s about not hurting anymore …. or anyone

It’s not about the miles – it’s about every step along the way

It’s not about the size of the battle – it’s about holding true to yourself

It’s not about the tears shed – it’s about caring

It’s not about the struggle – it’s about the fight inside

It’s not about youth – it’s about the child within

It’s not about money – it’s about the treasure in YOU

It’s not about what you have – it’s about what you give

I could go on and on .. but I’ll stop here … I think you understand the whisper from here…

Life is about finding peace and happiness .. right here .. right now.. in this moment .. within yourself.

Enjoy it!

It’s a gift we have been given … E N J O Y I T!

It’s in your own hands … how will you handle it?

The Student and the Teacher

OwlToday I’d like to hear your thoughts….

Let me be the student and you the teacher …

Now… what is it you’d like to say?

What inspires you?

What gets you up out of bed in the mornings?

What keeps you moving even though you want so badly to give up or take a break?

What motivates you?

What lessons have you learned?

What makes you feel better?

What makes you smile?

What makes you sad?

What is it that you could share today?

Feel the Shift…

IMG_8802There are many shifts that will happen in our lives. Some shifts come and go without hardly a notice and others rock our world in such a way that great change is experienced and acknowledged. We are constantly moving into different phases of being and of knowing. As our lives progress, we can’t help but to change.

When a new shift of being draws near, you can feel it. It resonates within you to the very core of your being. Your soul knows it’s coming, your mind, however may want to try and dismiss this shift coming for what could be a wide array of reasons. The shift is necessary for your own personal growth. Find ways to ground yourself and hold steady as the transition takes place. When you begin fighting with the inevitable, it only creates chaos. Stay flexible and allow the shift to take place. Once through the shift you will find yourself in a better place. Mentally, emotionally, physically …. all together better.

Looking back, you’ll wonder why you ever stressed over the change to begin with and wonder why you fought it and why you didn’t allow it to take place sooner.

The key is listening to your own intuition, that inner knowing that lives inside you will let you know when these shifts are coming. Listen and trust!

Fall Hollow – Natchez Trace Parkway

Today I took a trip down Natchez Trace Parkway to Fall Hollow where you can hike to a couple of different waterfalls. I started the trek on the Tennessee side at the 444 mile marker and made my way down to mile marker 391.9 to Fall Hollow. The brochure said it was not an easy hike down or back up for that matter. About half way down I had to find a good sturdy stick to help me the rest of the way down. Without that stick I doubt I would have made it back up. It had rained all night and was still raining off and on today so the hike was worse than normal. There were lots of places you had to hold on to the trees to make it down to the next level. The good thing is you really don’t have to hike very far to reach the falls. There were 3 different falls to Ooooo and Ahhhh over and I’m glad I made the trip down to see them.

At the last waterfall I started taking a video and a little blue butterfly decided to pay me a visit. It danced all through the waterfall and then up into the forest where it disappeared.

Check out the video and the photos below 🙂

I’m Not You… I’m Me

happy to be me
I don’t look like you may think I should, but…
That’s okay because I’m not you… I’m Me

I don’t do things the way you think they should be done, but…
That’s okay because I’m not you… I’m Me

I may not react the way you think I should, but…
That’s okay because I’m not you… I’m Me

I don’t paint what you think I should paint, but…
That’s okay because I’m not you… I’m Me

I don’t say what you think I should say, but…
That’s okay because I’m not you… I’m Me

I may not eat the way you think I should eat, but…
That’s okay because I’m not you… I’m Me

I may not feel what you think I should feel, but…
That’s okay because I’m not you… I’m Me

I don’t see what you think I should see, but…
That’s okay because I’m not you… I’m Me

I don’t believe the way you think I should believe, but…
That’s okay because I’m not you… I’m Me

I’m perfectly good the way I am, being me the best way that I can. We are all different and that’s not bad. Instead of building bridges to keep us apart, lets build them so that we can come closer together. You bring the rope and I’ll bring the planks. Together we’ll build a connection that unites us.

Our Connection to the Rain

There certainly is something special about the rain… don’t ya think?

Feeling quite artistic this morning. Admiring the beauty that magically comes after the rain.

What is it about the rain that makes us feel so much more deeply? Could it be water being associated with our emotion and rain drops resembling tears?

The rain is said to soothe and lull us to sleep with its rhythmic sounds. There is a hush that comes over the Earth as the rain begins to fall and the only sound is that of the rain pounding against your shelter, your own heartbeat and your breathing.

Maybe it’s how the rain slows us down, physically and mentally. We certainly slow our pace and think before we rush out into it. Sometimes we even stay put and wait it out. It’s the perfect time to curl up in favorite place to read, watch a movie or just hang out with your favorite person or pet.

There certainly is something special about the rain… don’t ya think?

Here are some red roses on their last days, fading with the times, soon to give way to it’s life so another can be born.

Appreciating the Breeze

This morning I dragged my butt out of bed before 5 am and made my way to the lake with camera in hand. One of my biggest loves is capturing the beauty of nature on camera and sharing it with the world. This morning I found myself complaining A LOT! It went something like this:

What the hell was I thinking?
Why am I out in this heat this early in the morning!
My feet hurt
What’s that pain in my side, I don’t like that …
I’m hot
I’m covered in sweat
OH God, what am I doing
Too flippin late to turn back now
Where are all the animals, even they know it’s too hot for this shit
I’m exhausted already
I can’t breathe … where is the air????
God, it needs to rain!
I can’t wait to get back to my car and the bottle of Gatorade in the console
Oh, this is painful

And then something beautiful happened… I topped the ridge and a breeze came soaring through the trail. That moment when I first felt the breeze upon my skin was nothing less than heavenly. All the things I had been complaining about where non existent for that moment. There were no negative thoughts rushing through my mind any longer… just the wonderful sensation of that cool breeze and a thankful mindset. I made it back to my car with just a handful of photos to share but with a whole new appreciation for something else.

There is nothing more refreshing and beautiful than a breeze when you have been far too long in the stale air.

Many Blessings,

The Magical Dragonfly

Dragonfly is connected to the symbolism of change and light. When the dragonfly shows up in your life, it may remind you to bring a bit more lightness and joy into your life. The dragonfly changes color as it matures and is a reminder that we should embrace our own transformation as we grow.

The Dragonfly

Swiftly buzzing through the air
Dancing on the breeze without a care.

Wings shimmering in the sunlight
Colors of change, taking flight.

From the water to the sky
Listen closely to the wisdom of the dragonfly

Don’t fear the changes in your life
For it doesn’t always bring one, strife

To transform is to grow
Bringing with it, wisdom in tow

Allow the light within, to shine bright
Unfold those wings and allow yourself to take flight

From these wings of mine
Let me be your reminder, your sign

Life is filled with joy and light
When change comes, don’t make it a fight.

Today I took a sort walk around the lake on my lunch hour and danced with a few of my winged friends.  Here are the photos.

A World of Colors

Every day I begin my mornings with camera in hand, on the hunt for something to photograph. I know there is beauty to be found… so I search. I always seem to find something. It may not be as grand as the sunrise and a sky full of colors, but it is beauty in it’s raw, natural form. From the spider’s web to a buzzing bee to the dew on a dandelion or the bark of an old tree… there is beauty all around us that goes completely without notice by most. Take some time each day to see the beauty that surrounds you… give thanks to the Earth for the gift and enjoy life and all of it’s precious moments.

Many Blessings,

Some days it is really hard to see the magic that is there, but it is still there.
Some days we really have to work on shifting our view to see the good in that day.
Some days it is easy.
Some days it’s right there in front of us, waving hello.
Some days it is hidden beneath a whole bunch of crap.
Some days we really have to dig.
Some days it’s a surprise.
Some days we need it more than others.
Some days we forget that its always there.
Some days, no matter how hard we look, we just can’t see it.
Some days all we need to do is feel it.
Some days it guides us.
Some days we don’t have to search.
Some days it saves us.

The magic is there… it is always there. If you can’t see it… look again. If that doesn’t work… keep looking. Eventually you’ll see it and if not today, there is tomorrow.

Finding What You’re Looking For

WP_20140703_009This morning as I sat in the grass, searching for 4 leaf clovers I thought about the search… not just the search for special clovers, but the search in general.

As I searched, I found myself ever so focused on what I was looking for. All other “things” were on the sidelines as I searched for these elusive clovers. I found one, and kept searching. I found another and continued to search. I found 3 then 4 and 5 and 6 and I kept searching. I found that I kept finding 4 leaf WP_20140703_007clovers until I decided to stop searching.

The same can be said about: Love, Success, Opportunity, Wisdom, Peace, Knowledge, Answers and everything else that one might search for.

You will continue to find what you seek until you decide to stop looking for it.

You may not always be happy with what you find or how you find it… but the choice is always there to keep searching.

WP_20140703_001It is fully up to you to decide when you have found enough and are ready to move on to the next search.

The search won’t always be easy, depending on what it is you are looking for. Sometimes you have to dig deep and go below the surface to find it. Sometimes it is right in front of you, but for whatever reason, you just can’t see it. The thing is… you will eventually find it for as long as you don’t give up searching for it.

For me this morning … the answer is 20. I found 20 four leaf clovers this morning before I decided that I had found enough, became happy with what I had found and stopped looking. 🙂

Finding the Wisdom Hidden Inside

IMG_7218We are born with an inner knowing that for the most part in the majority, goes completely untapped. Finding the wisdom hidden inside yourself takes patience, practice and an ability to quiet the mind. You see as children, we live in that inner knowing. Can you remember back to your childhood for a moment? Think about some of the things that you understood without anyone telling you, think about the things you believed without ever being subjected to it, think about the things you did without over-thinking that turned out in your favor…. think back to that time.

In the process of growing up and being “taught” what to think, we forget what we already knew.

How to find that hidden wisdom:

Be patient with yourself.
Practice meditation and practice listening to your intuition.
Learn how to quiet the mind.

It’s not something that happens quickly. I’m sure you will doubt yourself many times before you start actually listening. You will get frustrated and you will give up many times. You will keep trying and eventually you will find yourself trusting that inner knowledge. It’s well worth the time, effort and practice. When we follow our instincts, we find ourselves in a better place, mentally, physically and emotionally. We have to learn the difference between fear and lessons learned. There is a part of us that alarms us when we are about to do something that isn’t good for us… only you can determine if this alarm is going off from fear or from a previous lesson.

There are many forms of meditation. Try all of them until you find ones that work for you. When you find something that works, practice, practice, practice. The more you are able to master the art of meditation, the more you will find yourself hearing and understanding your own inner guide.

Emotion and Clarity

WP_20140627_002Water is a symbol of emotion, so take this image as an example of what happens when we let our emotions take over in too many places in our lives.

Those spaces of clarity become less and much smaller while the emotions take over our entire lives. Put those emotions in their place so that we can have more clarity in all areas of our lives.

It’s not going to be an easy task. It will have to be something to strive for daily, especially if you are anything like me and experience intense emotions.

Sigh… good luck 🙂

Where’s Your Focus Point?

WP_20140627_016

Have a good look at the image above. What did you aim your focus on first?  Was it the flower, the crack or the overall landscape?

Life is a reflection of what we aim our focus on. We can stand there each day focusing on everything that is wrong or we can adjust our focus to include those things that are right. By focusing in one direction only, our world becomes off balance.

So take a step back today and adjust your view.

Finding Peace Within

WP_20140625_002This morning I kicked off my shoes, planted my feet firmly into the Earth and began singing my song as I searched for 4 leaf clovers before work. For a long while I just sang and searched, moving along slowly as I kept my gaze upon the clover beds before me. At some point in my search this morning, I realized that I had found much more than special clovers. I found peace, relaxation and love.

In that moment that I realized what I had found, I smiled and do you know what I did next? I continued. Why stop the bliss? Why ruin the moment with over-thinking and analyzing?

A few factors came into play to create this moment of peace. Firstly, kicking off my shoes and making that direct connection to the Earth, created a grounding effect as well as linking myself with the Earth’s hum. The singing and searching, emptied my mind of all the other distractions, worries, fears, etc that living creates. My focus was solely on spotting clovers with more than 3 leaves. In a sea of clovers, one might think it would be a hard, stressful task, but for me this was relaxing and rewarding. With every 4 leaf clover I found, I gave thanks for the opportunity… I felt my whole being also being thankful with every “thank you” that I muttered.

On one’s search for inner peace, let go of that idea that we must find that peace and hold on to it every minute of our lives. It’s not quite practical that we will be able to do that and when we begin to fail at that task, we find ourselves pushing away any peace that we once had.

Allow yourself peaceful moments.

Once we have mastered these moments, no matter how small or large they may be… we will find ourselves having them far more often. Bringing us more peace, more relaxation and more love.

Many Blessings,
Raventalker

Magic on Ordinary Days

WP_20140623_003Some people spend their entire lives wishing for magic to happen. Whether it be their knight riding in on a white horse to rescue them from their mundane life or being followed by a magical trail of glitter and sparkles where ever they go, they keep wishing for magic. What they fail to see is the magic that is already there. Yep, right their in their lives every single day. We all have it! Magic isn’t something only a select few get to experience. Magic lives in the lives of all of us if we wish to see it.

Here’s some everyday magic you may have not noticed:

A smile from a stranger
A compliment for no reason at all
Finding something that was once lost
A cuddle from someone you love
A kiss
A kind gesture
Finding a penny (face up)
Finding a 4 leaf clover 😉
Laughter from a child
Giggles between friends
The song of the birds
The soft scent of honeysuckle floating on a breeze
Positive words
Feeling good about who you are
Completing a complicated task
Finding understanding
Knowing who you are
Being in the moment
Peace within
Finding your balance (even if only for a moment)
Doing for others
Spreading positivity

You see these may not seem very magical, but they are. These are just a few of the simple things in everyday life that make us feel good. Imagine for a moment a life without all of these things. Yeah, not so nice huh? Drab and sad to say the least.

Magic isn’t about fairy tales and sparkle, it’s not about a bunch of hocus pocus and making things appear with a twitch of your nose. Magic is about appreciating all parts of life and walking your path with love.

Magic is noticing those things that are mostly unseen, finding an appreciation for all life here on Earth, and harnessing the happiness life offers us.

Most important … Magic is love.  Plain and simple .. LOVE. Love yourself, love others, love living. LOVE.

Many Blessings,

Let it Rain

What is it about the rain that is so alluring? The soft, sweet lullaby of mother nature rocking us to sleep. The fresh smell of the Earth after a down pour and a thirst that has been quenched. The rain brings with it a cleansing and leaves behind a freshness that only the rain can provide. Puddles everywhere, reminding us to reflect upon our lives and the footprints we leave behind in our journey. Tiny droplets decorate the Earth, like tears from the heavens, glistening as the sun comes out, showing us that even as life is fading we should sparkle with all our might til the end. The rain and it’s soft sweet lullaby.. oh how I do love you so.

Here are a few of  rainy day photos I’ve taken… enjoy the lullaby. (click to enlarge)

Starting the Day with Positivity

How we choose to start each day makes a huge impact in our lives. It certainly doesn’t stop bad things from happening to us but it improves our general outlook and productivity. This morning I started my day with a little positive reinforcement from Karen Drucker with her song “Thank you for this day”.  I have to admit, when the song came on and I started singing along.. I did instantly feel better. My energy level raised up and I am feeling quite the happy camper and nothing special has even really happened to my day. That little moment of positivity and the message of being grateful just for having another day to live has been enough to get me moving in an uplifting and joyful way. Thank you Karen Drucker for this song and the positive energy it brings.

Being Motivated

IMG_3841 This morning I watched a video about some women who have worked so hard at perfecting their martial art skills that their abilities were simply amazing. Personally, I have struggled lately to find my drive. There is a place inside all of us where our motivation, our drive and our will to succeed lives. Through the daily grind that life gives us, we sometimes lose that place. It’s still there we just forget to tap into it’s power.

When you start utilizing that force inside yourself, you begin to work like a well oil machine. Nothing can get in your way, you are unstoppable. I need to tap back into my own force and stop making all those excuses I tell myself that today isn’t the day, maybe tomorrow.

You know the old saying, “There’s no time like the present!”. Oh man, this means a lot of work is in store for me. I can handle it, I just have to want to handle it. So here I am, before all of you, saying: “I can handle this! I got this! I will do it!”

Ready set go!

Finding the Light

WP_20140616_010I woke up this morning with no idea what I was going to talk about today, so I have been throwing all kinds of topics around in my head. None of these seemed to be the topic of the day. For a moment I thought, oh well I may not have a blog to post today and then life happened.

My co-workers started making their way into the office and I felt my thoughts falling into a big ol’ bucket of negativity as they began all their banter with each other and interrupting the peace and tranquility I’ve had so far this morning. I thought to myself, “Wow! I really might be anti-social today”. I stepped outside to get away from the noise for a moment and I thought, this is a good time to take my daily sky watch photo.

Stepping outside, I found not a cloud in the sky… only sunlight and blue skies. Great, but kind of boring from a photography point of view. Heavy sigh. So as I was feeling more relaxed and walking around, I looked up and saw the sunlight twinkle in and out of the crape myrtle flowers blowing in the wind and my thoughts were instantly lightened. I took my phone out and started snapping photos, trying to catch the light as it was peeking through the branches. It was a fun, playful experience… dancing with the tree, the sun and the wind. Finally I caught it!! I caught the light!

You see today’s message is a simple one. “There is light where you choose to see it.”

I am now out of my anti-social pit of negativity and in a more positive frame of mind.

Thank you Spirit and thank you to the sun and the wind for the playful dance beneath the crape myrtle tree.

The Magic of Friday the 13th

friday 13thToday is Friday the 13th and a Full Moon!

You will hear most everyone today talking about their fears and how they dread Friday the 13th … add the Full Moon on top of it and people go frantic! I’ll just stand to the side and shake my head. What is there to fear? Do any of them have a legitimate reason to be afraid of the number 13? How about the moon? Do they really have reason to fear the moon?

Let start with the moon… particularly the full moon because that is the moon most feared. What does the Full Moon actually do? Well from where I stood on my deck last night, it provided a glowing light in what could have been a very dark place. We will leave out the magical parts because “most” don’t understand that anyway… they are just afraid of a large mass in the night sky that is turned in such a way that it reflects the most sunlight it possibly can on it’s surface for the month.  Yep… real scary! Run for your lives!

Now lets look at the number 13. There are a lot of stories from olden times that contribute to the superstitions but that was the past. It already happened and for whoever it effected back then.. yep that was pretty unlucky but the number itself wasn’t the cause of the bad luck.. the cause was created by the people who committed the violent acts.

Number 13 = made from the number 1 which is a symbol of new beginnings and the number 3 which symbolizes creativity, communication, compassion and manifestation. Wow when you break it down, the number 13 looks pretty darn amazing!

So tell me now…. what is there to fear?

Here’s a bit magic I found today, on Friday the 13th with the full moon overhead:

I’ve been outside singing to the fairies this morning hunting four leaf clovers and taking photos in the rain…  Most will just want to stay inside when it rains, saying how yucky it is … but me… I think the rain is beautiful! I found 16 four leaf clovers this morning and captured some beautiful pictures with my camera. Have a look at the rain that everyone else avoided. (click on the gallery for best viewing)

June Full Moon – Lover’s Moon

IMG_6779Standing beneath the moons glowing light, I can feel her magic coursing through my veins. The energy of June’s full moon is that of love, marriage and success. It is a time to nurture your garden and enjoy it’s beauty. The same can be said for whatever projects you are tending in your life at this moment. All things become their best when we embrace them with love, whether it be a relationship, a job, project or anything else in your life. Act with love and watch it grow!

The June Full Moon is known by many names, some of them are:  The Lover’s Moon as well as The Strawberry Moon, The Rose Moon and The Honey Moon.

Don’t forget to step outside and soak up a bit of that full moon magic tonight. Also now is a great time to cleanse and charge your crystals with that full moon energy… place them outside or in your windows so that they can capture that moon magic.

Magical Thistle

I just love this time of year when the thistle are in bloom. Sprouts of purple can be found along side most roads throughout the South. Purple, being my favorite color anyway… there is no wonder I love it so much. Also it is my birth flower, the November flower :-). More reasons to like it, as if I needed any other reason.. it’s a flower – it’s purple and it’s my birth flower. Love, Love Love!

I thought I’d share with you some information I’ve gathered from the web about it’s magical properties along with some photos I took of thistle last night when I was out walking my sweet dog, Monty.   ENJOY!

Make sure you check out more info on the thistle below the photo gallery.

An herb of protection and vitality.

A bowlful placed in a room strengthens the spirits and renews vitality.

One may be carried for added strength and energy.

They offer protection when grown in the garden or carried in the pocket.

Throwing them into a fire will deflect lightning away from your home.

It is said that when a man carries a thistle he becomes a better lover.(Ooooooooooooooooo) lol.

A method of calling spirits is to boil some thistle.

It was once believed to cure the plague.

Thistle is also known to remove negative energies and hexes as well as bringing one uplifting energy and luck.

It strengthens the memory, helps with depression, and is useful in migraine headache.

Combine it with peppermint, elder flowers, and ginger for colds, fevers, and backache.

Being YOU

owl444Don’t allow outside forces to destroy who YOU are or allow them to take the light from inside.

Be who you are without fear ..

We are happiest when we don’t have to hide or mask the true self… when we are allowed the freedom to be exactly who we are without criticism and without fear of others looking at us with the tilted head and disapproving look on their faces.

I have learned that those type of people exist no matter where you are or where you go. There is always someone out there that won’t agree with everything you do or everything you believe.

Be yourself and don’t worry about what if someone doesn’t like this or that .. what if I look foolish .. what if I fail.. what if it doesn’t work exactly as planned .. what if.. what if… what if ….

I know from experience those “what ifs” are the true killer. Every day  that you don’t do something that feels right in your soul .. those what ifs eat away at you .. and your mind takes you on a nasty journey of self doubt.

Now please, do use common sense when living your life and making choices. Don’t do those things that you know may hurt you or someone else in some way.
Just follow your heart and be true to who you are. Follow your truest dreams and don’t let the ideas of others cause you self doubt.

You never know .. some of those dreams may just come true.

As my favorite quote goes:

Only the ones who believe,

Ever see what they dream

Ever dream what comes true….

Many Blessings,
Raventalker

Who am I…

Taken with Lumia Selfie

Taken with Lumia Selfie

I am the girl next door who didn’t follow the crowd.
I’m that twinkle you see when you look into my eyes.
I’m the magic that knows no bounds.
I’m the whisper that says, you can do it.
I’m the odd one, the weirdo, the freak.
I’m sometimes the wise one.
I’m the one who laughs at myself.
I’m the artist, who just loves to create.
I’m the scared one, needing a hug.
I’m the witch with a cackle like no other.
I’m the sun, the moon and the stars.
I’m the friend to the fairies.
I’m the worried one, hoping for the best.
I’m the messenger of Spirit.
I’m the light and the dark.
I’m the seeker, wanting to be found.
I’m the smile that I share.
I’m the listener.

Nothing More Than a Memory

holly sketchI don’t know why, but I started to think about when we pass and then began to think of my own passing and what would be left behind. This is what I came up with in that moment of reflection.

Nothing More Than a Memory

One day I’ll be gone from this Earthly place
Leaving nothing more than a memory to trace.

A glance from your eyes to mine
Something I hope lingers lovingly in your mind.

My mark, I’ve left on many a canvas
Now only memories left to dissolve softly into the blackness.

My words fading from the paper where they were once wrote
Leaving behind only a handful of mindful quotes.

My scent only a few knew, no longer lingering around
My laughter, no longer making a sound.

No projects left to craft
No more designs left to draft.

My love, I hope stays with you til the end of all time
Remember me dearly with a bit of  rhyme.

One day I’ll be gone from this Earthly place
Leaving nothing more than a memory to trace.

Hawk Meanings

I pulled into the parking lot at work this morning and noticed a couple of crows in the tree at the other end of the lot … I grabbed my camera and slowly walked toward the tree so that I wouldn’t frighten them away .. walking in a way that didn’t make me look too eager or aggressive… as I got closer I looked up and There was a Red Tailed Hawk sitting on the brick wall below them with his breakfast… check out the video for more information about our friend the Hawk.    🙂

What We Don’t See…

I stepped outside the office for a little break, of course with camera in hand as always. You never know when a photo opportunity will reveal itself! It’s warm out but there is a soft breeze out that is sooooo refreshing. I stood there for a moment, taking in the fresh air. The light scent of honeysuckle carried over from the field across the road, filled the air as it swept past me.

I walked over to the retaining wall at the side of the building, looking at the clover and clover flowers. I was hoping to spot a nice big bumble bee or a butterfly to photograph, but no such luck. There was a dandelion that was slowly fading away and some clover flower, so not wasting a moment I got my camera ready to capture their beauty. I moved around the side of the building to see what else I could see and there was my buddy the bumble bee… after capturing a couple of clicks I looked next to me and saw my friend the ladybug so I stepped back just a bit to get her in focus and started clicking away before she flew off.

I went back inside and got back to work, when I had a moment free I loaded the photos onto my computer from the card and as I was cropping the photos of the ladybug I noticed something in one of the photos. It was this tiny little bubble of dew hanging from a small blade of grass. I had completely missed it when I was outside. It was right there just inches away from the ladybug but I was focused so intently on the ladybug I missed this magical little bubble that was right there in front of me the whole time.

You know life is often just like this moment. When we focus so intently in one direction, we miss what is just in front of us.

Here’s the clicks I captured on my little 3 minute break: Click on the images to enlarge them for better viewing.

Lost in Nature

This morning before work, I took a nice long walk around the lake with camera in hand and I got lost. Not lost in a way that I needed to be found…but lost in the most beautiful way. Honeysuckle and jasmine filled the air and I was taken away.  The canopy of trees  overhead, the animals all chattering away just like when everyone gathers around the office in the mornings but so much better. The sights, the smells, the sounds … I was absolutely lost in this world and for a good while I wasn’t the least bit interested in being found. It’s a wonderful feeling to step away from the busy hustle and bustle of life and enjoy the tranquility of nature. I walked roughly 3 miles around the lake at a quick pace this morning but instead of feeling tired and drained, I am refreshed, excited and full of new found energy. My thoughts were not of worries about work, life, bills, projects or anything else of the sort… instead, my thoughts drifted from the pure pleasures of my surroundings like when a breeze would sweep through the trails and  suddenly I found myself drenched in the scent of honeysuckle and jasmine. I walked along and looked at everything I could possibly fill my eyes with. The way the clouds and the sun danced in the sky, the way the trees moved with the wind, the silhouettes of wildlife in the distance, the way the trail would seem to disappear and come back again as I made my way, the way the water sparkled in the sunlight and the colors that painted the Earth. I was lost and it was the most wonderful feeling ever.

Here are some photos of my walk this morning: (For more of my nature photos visit my photo blog http://natureblessings.wordpress.com )
