What We Don’t See…

I stepped outside the office for a little break, of course with camera in hand as always. You never know when a photo opportunity will reveal itself! It’s warm out but there is a soft breeze out that is sooooo refreshing. I stood there for a moment, taking in the fresh air. The light scent of honeysuckle carried over from the field across the road, filled the air as it swept past me.

I walked over to the retaining wall at the side of the building, looking at the clover and clover flowers. I was hoping to spot a nice big bumble bee or a butterfly to photograph, but no such luck. There was a dandelion that was slowly fading away and some clover flower, so not wasting a moment I got my camera ready to capture their beauty. I moved around the side of the building to see what else I could see and there was my buddy the bumble bee… after capturing a couple of clicks I looked next to me and saw my friend the ladybug so I stepped back just a bit to get her in focus and started clicking away before she flew off.

I went back inside and got back to work, when I had a moment free I loaded the photos onto my computer from the card and as I was cropping the photos of the ladybug I noticed something in one of the photos. It was this tiny little bubble of dew hanging from a small blade of grass. I had completely missed it when I was outside. It was right there just inches away from the ladybug but I was focused so intently on the ladybug I missed this magical little bubble that was right there in front of me the whole time.

You know life is often just like this moment. When we focus so intently in one direction, we miss what is just in front of us.

Here’s the clicks I captured on my little 3 minute break: Click on the images to enlarge them for better viewing.

Lost in Nature

This morning before work, I took a nice long walk around the lake with camera in hand and I got lost. Not lost in a way that I needed to be found…but lost in the most beautiful way. Honeysuckle and jasmine filled the air and I was taken away.  The canopy of trees  overhead, the animals all chattering away just like when everyone gathers around the office in the mornings but so much better. The sights, the smells, the sounds … I was absolutely lost in this world and for a good while I wasn’t the least bit interested in being found. It’s a wonderful feeling to step away from the busy hustle and bustle of life and enjoy the tranquility of nature. I walked roughly 3 miles around the lake at a quick pace this morning but instead of feeling tired and drained, I am refreshed, excited and full of new found energy. My thoughts were not of worries about work, life, bills, projects or anything else of the sort… instead, my thoughts drifted from the pure pleasures of my surroundings like when a breeze would sweep through the trails and  suddenly I found myself drenched in the scent of honeysuckle and jasmine. I walked along and looked at everything I could possibly fill my eyes with. The way the clouds and the sun danced in the sky, the way the trees moved with the wind, the silhouettes of wildlife in the distance, the way the trail would seem to disappear and come back again as I made my way, the way the water sparkled in the sunlight and the colors that painted the Earth. I was lost and it was the most wonderful feeling ever.

Here are some photos of my walk this morning: (For more of my nature photos visit my photo blog http://natureblessings.wordpress.com )

Superstitions and Bird Meanings

IMG_3460I am asked all the time about the meanings for different bird superstitions.

Here are a few I’ve been asked:
What does it mean when you see 6 hawks flying overhead?
What does it mean when  bird flies in your house?
What does it mean when you see 3 magpies?
What does it mean when you see 2 doves?

This list goes on and on with all the different kinds of birds there are… so I’ll stop there.

There have been superstitions tied to birds for centuries. Who know where each one originated with but somewhere down the line someone said to another this means this and that means that and so on and so fourth.

The Magpie rhyme is a good one: One for sorrow, Two for joy ,Three for a girl, Four for a boy, Five for silver, Six for gold, Seven for a secret, Never to be told.

Here are a few others I found online:

  • If a bird poops on your head it is a sign of good luck.
  • Don’t become a sailor if you kill an albatross, as superstition states you will get lost at sea (we just think you shouldn’t on principle).
  • It is good luck if a blackbird makes a nest on your house.
  • If you see 5 crows, sickness will follow; see 6 crows and death will follow.
  • To avoid bad luck tip your hat if you see a magpie.
  • Whatever you do to a robin will happen to you, so be nice!
  • It is bad luck to see an owl during the day.
  • A kingfisher is a very lucky bird.
  • Three seagulls flying together, directly overhead, are a warning of death soon to come.
  • Sparrows carry the souls of the dead, it’s unlucky to kill one (again, we think killing any birds is wrong).
  • When a swan lays its head and neck back over its body during the daytime it means a storm is coming.
  • Having a wren around will prevent one from drowning.
  • A bird that flies into a house foretells an important message. However, if the bird dies, or is white, this foretells death.

These are all superstitons that many of us have grown up being told to believe as truth. All these things do is contaminate our minds with rubbish. A bird is a bird and a bird does what birds do. They fly most often in groups so if you see 5 or 6 crows .. well those crows are mostly likely family and they just like hanging out together. If a bird flies into your house, it probably didn’t mean to and is suddenly thinking “Holy Crap, get me out of here!!” .  If a black bird makes a nest on your house, it just likes where you live too. Are Kingfishers lucky? yep they get to hang out at the lake and fish all day … lol, that’s pretty lucky if you ask me. Is it bad luck to see an owl during the day? Ummmm well not to me.. when I see one in the day I feel extremely blessed, because I get to photograph it!!

It’s hard to get rid of the ideas we were always told to believe. It can be done. Just change the way you see those things.

When I see a bird or two or three or however many…. I get excited and happy. I am usually with my camera and the opportunity to photograph these beautiful feathered friends is something that makes me really happy. It’s nothing to do with omens, luck or anything else. It’s simply an encounter with a bird. That is just doing what birds do.

So what else have you been told to believe that might not really be true?

Our Personal Journey

IMG_3602I once posted a simple statement, ” Don’t let the ideas of others get in the way of your own personal journey”.

This statement short and simple, but I feel many will have a deeper understanding to its truth than one might think.

Often in our journey we allow the ideas and thoughts of others interfere with our own quest. We allow those ideas to seep into our path and distract us from where we were going. We begin to question what we already knew to be our own truth. Those ideas get intertwined with ours and distort the vision we had for ourselves. It’s like a contamination. We must learn to hear the ideas of others without those ideas taking away from our journey forward and our purpose.

Don’t be afraid to stand up for yourself and the path that is true to you. It is okay to walk away from those things that don’t feel true to you and your path.

Many Blessings,
ravensig

The Struggle with Our Own Knowing

IMG_2794This morning a friend asked me how to explain to others how being in awareness of your own abilities can bring you into a better place. Even though we all have abilities, most like to stay in their safe place so that they don’t feel vulnerable.

My Response: Most people are afraid to question what they were always taught to believe … so they fight with themselves, second guessing what they feel inside to be true. Your soul already knows where you are going and what you should do, but most people fight with their own souls because they were taught something else.

Don’t get too caught up in meanings other people, websites or books give you, you can listen to them, take them in and make note but don’t let that be what guides you. You have to always listen to your own inner knowing… your own soul.

The more we trust, the more our lives will come together in a much more peaceful way.
I’m not saying we won’t have battles because we will. We will battle, we will struggle and we will survive.. time and time again… that’s all a part of living and if you have never been through a storm how can you help guide another as they go through their own.

The Healing Energy of Purple

purple passionEver wonder how colors effect your mood and other parts of your life?

Every color has it’s own healing properties. Changing colors of a room will give it a completely different feel so why can’t it also effect other parts of your life as well?

Here’s some info on the color purple I’ve found around the web:

PURPLE light has the shortest wave and the highest vibrational frequency.  The traditional meaning of the color PURPLE is that of spiritual fulfilment, and it is associated with nobility and power. (I’ve read in several places that royals wore purple because it was more expensive to create than other dyes.)

PURPLE is a deeply rich, comforting and engulfing color that resonates with passion and energy, with the warmth of RED blended with the calmness, coolness and sophistication of BLUE.

PURPLE is used to inspire and motivate us to put our creativity into action.

The color PURPLE is indicative of devotion, Divine healing and healing abilities, kindness, love and lovingness, compassion, care and empathy.  PURPLE is also the color of mysticism and spirituality, justice, wealth, dignity, integrity and high rank, and resonates with power and inspiration.  PURPLE represents Divine guidance, protection, creativity, art, beliefs, imagination and extra-sensory abilities.  PURPLE enhances inspiration, reinforces spiritual awareness and enlightenment and meditative abilities.

PURPLE relates to mystery, perceptions, psychic abilities, transformation, spiritual insight, spiritual renewal and power, psychic healing, balancing polarities, astral projection, paranormal sensitivity, compassion, active dreaming, personal power and inner-wisdom. PURPLE relates to the intuition and is deeply associated with dreams.

PURPLE stimulates our spiritual perspective and is the color of transformation, contemplation, reservation, and meditation. PURPLE uplifts, calms the mind and nerves, offers a sense of spirituality and encourages creativity.  PURPLE brings spiritual insights and renewal, and encourages restful sleep.

PURPLE has long been the color of royalty, dating back to a time when the monarch was thought to have a direct link to the heavens.  PURPLE resonates with divination and prophecy, angels, psychic healing, psychic abilities, reversing curses and counter-acting negativity/black magic, meditation and inspiration, spirituality, astral projection and the Third Eye.

Choosing Stones & Crystals

crystal2Crystals & stones have long been used for healing purposes of all kinds. Each one having its own unique properties and qualities. There are websites all over the place that elaborate on all the many different types of crystals and stones and their many uses.

Find a website that you trust when it comes to understanding their properties. Also you have to use your own intuition as well when it comes to picking out one that best fits you and your needs.

So you have done some research and you know what type of crystal or stone you need and now all you have to do is find one. Here’s what you do:

If you are able to go into a physical store and touch the stones, then that is the best way of choosing. Pick up and touch every stone of the type you are looking for with your intentional use  in mind. Eventually you’ll pick up a stone that you feel that you just can’t put down or that you’ll keep going back to. THAT is your stone! If you can’t find one that calls to you then you’ll have to find another shop or wait til they have new inventory.

If you can’t get into a physical shop and you are shopping online for your stones then it’s a little bit different since you can’t touch the stones and feel their energy. You’ll have to keep that intentional use in mind while surfing through websites. The same feeling will come upon you when you find THE ONE. It will be stone that you just keep coming back to. A stone that imprints on your mind and connects with you.

I hope this has been of help.. now go out and get some stones!

Spirit Journey

WP_20140502_0065/4/2014 Tonight as the hours tic by and bedtime approaches I feel Spirit guiding me. I decide to go  have a bath and meditate for a while. As tub begins to fill I feel myself in a very calm, relaxed state. I was meditated until I started to wrinkle and just before I got out of the bath I heard a whisper say ” you know better, dip your head under the water as well… you know this is how a cleansing goes before each journey”. I thought for a moment .. but I didn’t want to get my hair wet .. and Spirit whispers .. ” well do as you like but if you don’t dip your head, it is then your choice not to journey”. And so I dipped my head like I was told.

As soon as I slid under the water, a Grandmother spirit appeared overhead and said “Go la nv Ga wo ni ha , you and I will journey tonight. We will walk together in the clouds for a while, there are things I need to show you.”  Her face I will never forget, aged but not too aged, graceful and full of knowledge and kindness. Her eyes twinkled and her smile, sincere. She had long flowing, gray hair that seemed to float in the breeze. I cannot wait to journey with her tonight. So, off o my office I got to smudge before bed and then let the night fill my eyes to see what there is to see.

As I lay my head to pillow the journey begins:

Great Grandmother spirit comes to me and begins to bless me with healing waters. First she casts the waters down the center of my body from head to toe and then across my body from side to side tells me that this to keep me centered and aligned.  She then begins to rub an herbal ointment on my feet for safe journeys. Next up is the painting of my body, she begins with blue flowers that quickly turn into paint and rubs this all over my neck for a strong and clear voice, my face and entire head is painted white for the crown chakra, except for a purple smudge right in the center of my forehead for clear vision… tiny lines are then painted from the purple dot in my forehead that move from above my eyebrows and circle around to the corners of my eyes, again for a clearer vision. The rest of my body is painted in greens and browns to keep me grounded. My feet and hands are painted white. The palm of my hands have a small, bright fuschia red spot in the center, the white represents energy being formed and the red spot it’s focus. My feet are painted white so that I can easily walk between the worlds.

Now that I am all painted and have been blessed and told all the meanings of the processes that have been done to me, I am given some information to help with the days to come. I’ll keep those things to myself, for they are personal and not to be shared at this time.

Weaving with the Spider

IMG_2624This morning as I settled into work, I felt this overwhelming urge to go outside with my camera.. something was out there waiting for it’s photo op. I looked up into the sky, looked all around at the trees and then began to walk around the roses in front of me. I wasn’t seeing anything so I moved my focus in for a better look and what do you know… there she was … little miss spider waiting there on the rose petal, waiting.

So today I am to give you some information about Grandmother Spider and ask you to always be thinking about your own web that you weave throughout your life.

Spider is a symbol of creativity.  Is the weaver of the web of life and of fate.  Spider is able to interconnect, linking the past and the future, birth and creation.  If spider crawls into our awareness, it is asking us to rebuild the web of our life in accordance with the design Great Spirit gave us.IMG_2580

The spider shows us that the past, the present and the future are all interwoven.  It awakens our intuitive creative senses and encourages us to design the fabric of our lives from our souls original intention.

Take a moment to think about the web you continuously weave.

Many Blessings,
Raventalker
